Kar Mei Tang

Kar Mei has over 20 years' experience in policy and regulation in both the public and private sectors, with particular focus on public sector finance, financial markets, data analysis, innovation and technology.
She is currently the Director of the Treasury and Finance team in the NSW Dept of Premier and Cabinet, where she leads a team providing policy advice on budgetary, financial and government services policy.
Prior to that she was Head of Policy and Research at the Australian Private Equity and Venture Capital Associated Ltd (AVCAL), where she led policy advocacy for the industry for eight years.
She has also worked in the private sector in fintech and consulting, and has spent a number of years as an economist with the Securities Commission of Malaysia. During this time she had regular stints with the Ministry of Finance to work on international affairs, speechwriting and communique drafting committees for ministerial fora such as APEC, ASEAN and World Bank meetings.
She has a B.Commerce (Hons) from the University of Melbourne, M. Applied Statistics from the ANU, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Sydney, with a strong track record in academic and industry publications, media engagement and public speaking. She currently also sits on the Sydney Children's Health Network's Research Ethics Committee and UTS Business School as an honorary staff member.
