Hazel Bateman

Hazel Bateman is Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR) and a Professor of Economics in the UNSW School of Risk and Actuarial Studies. She is the inaugural President of the International Pension Research Association (IPRA). Hazel Bateman researches consumer financial decision making especially as it relates to retirement accumulation and decumulation. In particular, her work focuses on interventions to facilitate better retirement financial decisions; retirement product design in Australia and China; and the taxation and regulation of pension and superannuation funds. Hazel Bateman is the author of over 70 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has been Chief Investigator on over a dozen ARC funded projects. Hazel has consulted on retirement income issues to international organisations including the OECD, the World Bank, the Social Insurance Administration (China) and the Korean Institute of Health and Social Affairs. She is a member of Netspar’s Scientific Council, the Steering Committee of the Melbourne Mercer Global Pension Index and the China Ageing Finance Forum. She is an editor of the Journal of Pension Economics and Finance, and serves on the editorial board of the Economic Record..

Tony Makin

Tony Makin is Professor of Economics and Director of the APEC Study Centre at Griffith University, and is a member of the National Economic Panel of the Economic Society of Australia. His field of expertise is international macroeconomics and finance and he has previously served with the IMF Institute in Singapore, as a senior economist in the Australian departments of Finance, Foreign Affairs and Trade and Treasury, and as an Australian convenor for the Pacific Economic Co-operation Council (PECC).
