The first annual Australian Women in Economics Retreat will be held in July 2016 at the Serafino Vineyard (http://serafinowines.com.au/) in McLaren Vale South Australia. The retreat has been initiated and sponsored by the Economic Society of Australia (ESA) with the goal of promoting and supporting female economists working in Australia.
Over the two day retreat, 15 – 20 junior and mid-career women will have the opportunity to develop their networks; receive mentoring; and strengthen their leadership skills. Each participant will discuss their research in small group sessions led by senior women working in related fields. A number of panel sessions will explore issues in career management; achieving family/work life balance; and getting ahead. Dr. Ruchi Sinha (University of South Australia) will conduct an interactive workshop designed to assist all participants with improving their negotiation skills.
The senior economists participating in the retreat include: Alison Booth (ANU); Lisa Cameron (Monash); Deborah Cobb-Clark (University of Sydney); Susan Dynarski (University of Michigan); Catherine Eckel (Texas A & M); and Renee Fry (ANU).
The ESA will fund the costs of the retreat itself. Participants must fund their own travel costs to and from McLaren Vale.
