Negotiating flexible and remote work in a COVID-19 world and beyond: What do employees and employers need to know?

The impact of the pandemic has triggered a large-scale shift in working arrangements among many professionals. Opportunities are opening up for employees to potentially negotiate new working arrangements, while at the same time, employers need to identify how to best support their employees and fulfil their organisation’s goals.

While remote and hybrid work arrangements provide many benefits, including the potential to better harmonise work and family commitments, there is a risk that women who opt for hybrid or remote work may end up being disadvantaged in other ways, such as being overlooked for future career opportunities. If you are contemplating remote work, what do you need to know? If you are an employer or manager with responsibility for remote workers, how can you promote fair and inclusive work practices? What practical considerations matter as we navigate these new possibilities and continue to strive for gender equitable workplaces?

In this webinar, Dr Ruchi Sinha shares her research insights on negotiation in the workplace in the context of women’s experiences and in relation to the unfolding new work environment that the COVID-19 pandemic has presented to us.

The webinar will provide the opportunity for participants to ask your own questions in a supportive and collegial forum.

Guest presenter:

Dr Ruchi Sinha is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Management at UniSA. Ruchi has a Master’s Degree and a PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Michigan State University, USA. Before entering academia, Ruchi worked as an HR consultant and delivered training programs on psychometric profiling, team-building, negotiation and leadership development. Before UniSA, Ruchi was a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Organizational Behaviour at the Indian School of Business (Hyderabad). She is an expert facilitator who specializes in teaching Master-level courses in Business Negotiations and Leadership.

In the domain of negotiation research, Ruchi focuses on the role of power and emotions in predicting negotiation effectiveness. Some of her recent work discusses the role of gender in negotiation outcomes and how the leadership development of women leaders needs to focus on the specific development of negotiation skills. Ruchi is an active member of the Academy of Management, Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Australian Human Resources Institute, and the International Academy of Conflict Management.
