In Conversation with Rod Maddock - Young Economist Event - ONLINE ONLY

Date

From: Tuesday August 26, 2025, 11:30 am

To: Tuesday August 26, 2025, 12:30 pm

The Productivity Commission Seminar Team is organising an event which may be of interest to young economists, who are able to join this session via Teams.

Please join us to hear from Rodney Maddock. Rod is one of very few economists who has worked across major corporates, government, universities, and lobbyists. He has pursued economics from econometrics to macroeconomics, and then to economic history, economic development, regulatory economics, public policy, finance, and regional planning.

Particular experiences include:

  • Teaching economics in Spanish in Colombia
  • Consulting across many industries during the microeconomic reforms of the 1990s
  • Working in the Premier’s Department across the Kennett to Bracks transition
  • Heading CBA’s Group Strategy during the Global Financial Crisis
  • Thinking spatially about how the West of Melbourne might grow.

Rod will talk about the challenges of economics in universities, government and in the private sector.
