This year’s Freedom to Choose (FTC) conference is the 14th in a sequence of annual one day conferences devoted to exploring the effectiveness of free-market policies. FTC is supported by the Mannkal Economic Education Foundation and hosted by the University of Notre Dame Australia. FTC 2024 is designed primarily for the benefit of undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate students, but all interested parties are welcome to attend.

Productivity Commission Chair Danielle Wood will present the 2024 Ted Evans Public Policy Lecture. Danielle will speak on the role of economics in contemporary policy challenges. She will discuss how policy making has changed and the way in which economics has evolved to better assist policy making, including the better use of data, more diverse frameworks, and stronger economic institutions. Additionally, Danielle will provide some examples of the role of economics in contemporary debates, such as those on AI, energy markets, industry policy, and the care economy.
