Join us for October's Policy in the Pub to hear from Associate Professor Alex Millmow, Federation University and the President of the History of Thought Society of Australia (HETSA) who will discuss what (if anything) can learn from the Great Economists.
The topic for this talk comes from a recent book by Linda Yueh "The Great Economists: How their ideas can help us today" and the talk will include a reflection and commentary on the issues it raises.

Drawing on his extensive public policy experience, Vince FitzGerald's address will focus on the increased role of economics and economists in public policy formulation, on how economic reform was successfully achieved in the past and how the prospects for achieving reform can be improved in today’s environment. Finally he will analyse the growing challenges of inequality and fiscal sustainability after the global financial crisis.

Policy in the Pub: Designing the Roadmap for Regulatory Reform

Regulators face significant trade-offs in conducting their roles. Governments have been challenging their regulatory agencies to decrease the burden they impose on compliant stakeholders. However, poorly designed approaches may inadvertently encourage behaviours that go against the policy objectives underpinning regulatory schemes.
