The Gender Gap in Superannuation
Date: Monday Jun 11, 2018, 12:00 pm
Presentation by Professor Christine Smith, Griffith University
There is a large gender gap between retirement savings of Australian men and women. According to the Australian Human Rights Commission website, for example the average superannuation payout for women is currently one third of the payout for men. This presentation will explore the reasons behind this gender gap and what superannuation funds and the government may need to do in order that another generation of women do not face the prospect of living their final years in poverty.
This presentation will be followed by a panel session comprised of major superannuation fund representatives and academic experts who will answer questions relating to how this gender gap might be addressed by policy makers and funds themselves.
