Alternative Careers Using Economics
Myriam Robin graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Economics in 2010. In her final year in Adelaide, she was the editor of the student newspaper, On Dit. She is now one of two Rear Window columnists at the Australian Financial Review, filing to the daily column a mix of corporate, financial and political gossip. It's a role she began in the Melbourne bureau three years ago, after stints writing on markets, small business and the media industry. As a young woman generally reporting on male-dominated spheres, she has found her knowledge of and ability to slip into economic jargon immensely valuable in convincing senior businesspeople she should be taken seriously.
Rowan Roberts is a Partner with KPMG and the South Australian lead for the People and Change Practice and South Australian Government account. Prior to joining KPMG, Rowan worked as a senior economist in the public sector at the Commonwealth and State level, as well as in research for non-government and multi-lateral organisations in Australia and Europe. Rowan has extensive stakeholder engagement experience and is skilled with supporting organisations to design and deliver on their strategic intent. She is an experienced facilitator and has worked with a variety of stakeholder groups across government, industry and the community.
Zara Shroff is a Senior Policy Officer within the Strategy and Policy team at the Australian Space Agency (the Agency), commencing in the role in February 2020. Zara contributes to the development of civil space policy matters and implementation of the Australian civil space strategy to grow and transform Australia’s space industry. Zara has over five years of industry policy and program management experience. Before joining the Agency, Zara worked in several roles within the South Australian Government, including policy roles in the Office of the Economic Development Board, cabinet office and she also managed the state’s open data program. Zara is passionate about contributing to industry and innovation policy and has also published a number of articles and reports on those subjects.
Professor Nancy Arthur currently serves as the Dean Research for UniSA Business, University of South Australia. Prior to moving to Australia in 2019, Nancy was an academic and Canada Research Chair at the University of Calgary. Nancy’s current research focuses on career development and the changing world of work, including the international career transitions of students and workers. Nancy served as a Vice-President of the International Association for Educational and Vocational Guidance and a Board member of the Canadian Career Development Association. Her recent edited books include Contemporary Theories of Career Development: International Perspectives (Routledge), Career Theories and Models at Work: Ideas for Practice (CERIC), and Counseling in Context: Identities and Social Justice (Springer).
